About Us
NITEO Uganda was founded in 2008 with a vision to see Uganda thriving through the power of literacy. NITEO is a latin word which means “to thrive, to flourish, to shine bright” and we believe it is through the ability to read that bridges are built to bright and hopeful futures.
Mission
Open Books, Open Minds, Open Doors. We address literacy inequity by providing books to communities with limited access to books.
Vision
To see every child in Uganda thriving through the power of literacy! The ability to read changes lives and builds bridges to bright and hopeful futures.
Our Core Values
| Reciprocity | Everyone has something to offer and everyone has something to learn. |
| Respect | All people will be treated with dignity. All opinions will be heard and valued. |
| Relationship | At the heart of literacy learning are healthy relationships – with ourselves, with others, and with our world. |
| Sustainable | Every participant becomes a conduit of literacy learning for others, which is not only sustainable but an exponential investment in future generations. |
| Community | Literacy learning flourishes in communities, rather than in isolated academic endeavors. |

“We value our partnership with NITEO for the books that make our programs a reality. Books open doors to a multitude of things…books heal, comfort, empower, encourage, and strengthen a child’s agency for peaceful coexistence.”
