Founded by Ms. Namigadde Joyce, Happy Times Childcare Initiatives was a response to the need Joyce witnessed in her community for a safe place to care for and educate children. Happy Times takes in orphaned and abandoned children and cares for them until they are able to find a family or reunite them with family. Classes rotate through the library for reading time each week where students are able to experience the joy of reading!

Ask8 Centre for Skills Development is a community based organization in the district of Kumi, Uganda. Founded in 2020, Ask8’s vision is to have an empowered and inspired generation of young citizens through providing opportunities to young people through targeted initiatives in education mentoring, social enterprise and leadership development. 

Marles Children’s Foundation (MCF) has a mission “to educate Ugandan children, giving them the proper nutrition and tools to develop into productive adults, have a better future and continue the cycle for future generations while saving the traditions and culture of the Ugandan people.” Niteo books supply their school library which is accessible to the students of MCF and the community on weekends.

PeerLink Initiative Uganda (PELI-U) is a community rooted children, youth and women focused Non-Governmental Organization.PELI-U utilizes a whole community approach and works through its community library and empowerment center. The community library serves as a one stop point through which children, youth, women and community members access services in education, skills development and health. 

Located in Namulanda, Whispers of Love Foundation is an NGO that was founded by two twin sisters, Esther and Janet. They took this decision after being touched by the lives of three children they met : these little ones did not have any assistance to go to school, and two  of them were orphans living with their grandmother. Having seen the suffering and appealing situation of the children, they dedicated their efforts towards kids in similar conditions. They first tried to pay the tuition for the first three children, but as the numbers gradually increased to eight, then thirty three, it became difficult to manage the three kids with all the others. They finally decided to open up a library that would be able to host as many children and provide basic learning materials like books, toys that would help occupy them in the day. They started helping to teach the kids how to read and write through alphabetical letter learning and basic knowledge in English and Maths.but most of all, Whispers of Love Foundation is a place where children come to find love, care and compassion.

Project Shelter Wakadogo is a nursery and primary school in northern Uganda. Wakadogo, meaning ‘for the little ones’ in Swahili, was founded in 2006 by a group of volunteers in the UK and Canada. At this time, northern Uganda was coming out of 23 years of civil war. The school opened in 2009 in a remote, rural village called Acoyo on the outskirts of Gulu town. This was the first school to provide quality education to the girls and boys living in this community.
